Mrs. Thatcher was Drunk in Drinking Moutai
At about 5 o'clock on Dec 19th, 1984, China and Britain formally held signing ceremony and released joint communiqu¡§¦. This was a historic moment that concerned the future of Hong Kong. Invited to attend the signing ceremony were 101 people from all social circles of Hong Kong, and the entire China (including over 5 million residents of Hong Kong) and the world saw the bright page in the history of Sino-British relationship.
Representing the British side in participating in the signature was "Iron Lady", Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of Britain. She was reco-rded in history as the first Prime Minister of Britain to visit the People's Republic of China on Sep 22nd, 1982. When she visited China for the first time, she hesitated in issues regarding Hong Kong. Today, as one of the path-finders, she was over 60 years of age, and still looked elegant. After the signing ceremony, she lightly entered the banquet room. As usual, Moutai was used in the banquet. Maybe it was because Mrs. Thatcher felt pleased, maybe she still cherished the favorable feeling for Moutai during her first visit to China. She drank several glasses in the heated and friendly atmosphere between the guests and the hosts, and she could not control her steps and said, "Good, good! I am not drunk". Knight Jude, Governor of Hong Kong was afraid that Mrs. Thatcher drank too much and did something silly. He and Evans, British ambassador to China, supported her to Diaoyutai National Guesthouse to take rest. When Mrs. Thatcher stepped out of the banquet room and lifted her foot on the white marble step, she suddenly pulled Knight Jude and Evans away, and she wanted to look at the People's Conference Hall. When she looked up and saw the People's Conference Hall with the national emblem of the People's Republic of China. We did not know whether because she felt excited, or she could not resist the effect of "Moutai", she stumbled, and almost fell down. Evans and Jude quickly helped her up, and made reporters from all countries that wanted to take pictures of this to say "regret".
After that, AP made a point of reporting on this. Sensitive and speculat-ing reporters said that due to drinking Moutai, Mrs. Thatcher was drunk and fell under the national emblem of the People's Conference Hall of Beijing¡
